About Me

I'm not very good on this so I have tasked my girls to do it for me.

Christina is a semi-retired pastry chef and soon-to-be accountant. She’s also a full time mum, my mum actually. The gap between the two industries is astronomical and yet she manages to have the best of both worlds. Throw in the challenges of single handedly (well, most of the time anyway) raising two amazing, might I add, daughters in the mix, how she does it, I don’t know. No one does.

Having spent years baking her way in the professional kitchen, she realised that the demands of the industry, both emotionally and physically, will soon take its toll. As if on cue, the opportunity for a desk job popped in. She applied with high hopes and soon enough got hired for the job. Ask her what she felt about being hired and she’ll say one sentence to each and every one who asked, “God is good”. As saddening as it was, she had to pack her wooden spoons and bid farewell to what has been her territory for a period of time. She may have left the professional kitchen, but I’ll tell you one thing, her heart will forever be with her trusty oven.

With that said, in our home, a diet fails to exist. Week after week, something oh so scrumptious is made. Not that I’m complaining, I’m the daughter, I get to eat everything.

Forever grateful,
Your crazy daughter

My mom’s true passion is baking, which, fortunately, she gets to do most times since my sister and I have a sweet tooth. But if you ask her, she likes accounting. It is probably easy as pie when you’re good in numbers and money. She’s not really into sports, but she tries to be healthy every once in a while if you ask yours truly.
My mom used to work in the banking industry, but after five years, she realized that she really loves baking (or just can’t take the excessive amount of math), so she went to study about the Culinary Arts. She was practically hopping back and forth from her hometown to Manila and Bulacan when she was a chef. She also managed a cafe in our city, Northern Brew. Then, she worked in New Zealand for about 15 months. When my dad suggested going to New Zealand’s neighbour, Australia, my mom agreed, and here we are in Sydney.  Mom’s first job was that of a test baker in a flour milling company.  Their team develop bread and cakes for popular Australian brands, which we can’t mention. Then after two years, she went back to accounting.
My mom whenever she can, bakes anything from classics like chocolate cake to others that she has just seen (and tasted, of course), or maybe even that she just completely made up! No matter what my mom bakes, it will always taste great. She’s not afraid of mixing and matching this and that (unless the result is some sort of puffy failure of a cake). What I like about my mom is that she cooks good food and she is perfectly capable of working out sums I can barely figure out in a couple of minutes in just a few seconds. Also a bunch of other things that I can’t fit onto a short-ish biography (but most people live a long life, so a long biography kind of makes sense).
So that’s pretty much my mom’s life story in a larger-than-average nutshell. Isn’t it nice to have an adventurous chef who is able to run a bank on their own for a mom?*
*- No sarcasm included.

Need I say more? Expect it to be over-rated, they're my children anyway.
I hope you'll find my posts helpful.
